Resources Necessary to Implement My Game Plan

(This post seeks to complete the assignment required for course 6713 – week 3 of Walden University. In order for the reader to appreciate what this game plan refers to, it is helpful to review App 3. see link http://mrcsphysicswiki.wikispaces.com/Extra+Credit )

What resources will you need to carry out your plan (video, reading, experts or colleagues, etc)?

In order to carry out my plan:

1. it is imperative that all students have access to the WEB. In a recent poll, 85% of all students do have access and the remaining students will have access through the use of the library computers during study hall.

2. Since only a portion of each period of my class involves theory, a video projector is required to allow for WEB visual reinforcement.

3. In order to replace traditional homework with home study time, online tutorials which can be accessed via the WEB must be geberated. Each tutorial lesson will track in class work.

4. For this particular lesson, students will be introduced to a WIKI to facilitate student interaction toward a common assignment goal.

5. Close collaboration with parents, encouraging a multi team approach of teacher and parent will be encouraged, via email correspondence and parental access to the tutorials themselves. Parents will understand that the ongoing (perpetual) homework assignment is to access the tutorial as often as required to understand concepts, supplement in class notes and learn how to study.

What steps have you been able to take so far?

1. Thus far, I have begun to generate my online tutorial matrix.

2. I have tested the effectiveness of this new approach and polled parents and students as to their opinions of the effectiveness of the new approach. Initial polling is encouraging.

3. I have generated an on line polling process using SurveyMonkey®, a WEB based survey tool, to encourage parental feedback in order to modify my pedagogical approach as required.

  1. Those items yo will need sound quite similar to what I have run across with other students and those I need myself. Web access, wiki, projector, parent involvement and re-organized homework. They all sound great and only the projector seems to be one that costs money.

Ah, surveymonkey, love it, use it. This is a great site. It is also cheaper than some competitors.

Well, it seems like you have some plans well in hand. Good luck and keep us informed.

  2. John,

Sounds like you are on the right track to achieving your goals! What ideas have you brainstormed for increasing the 85% of students who have computer access? Believe me; I think all educators would be interested in hearing what you have to say about this! Do you plan to provide alternative times for the other 15 % of students to complete the online tutorials that you are suggesting? I love your idea of collaborating with parents about the integrated technology assignments, and even polling them initially to gather information. You will more than likely achieve better results by doing so!

    Good Luck!

  3. John,

Wow! You have accomplished quite a bit of work in such a short time. The online tutorial will be such a big help for parents and students that need a little extra help. I really like your idea of using an online polling process in order to get input from your parents. This will really help them feel a connection to you and appreciate your willingness to accept their input. I will definitely have to remember this for future parental communication techniques! Have you ever considered or done an actual hands-on training session with your parents? I am considering this for the coming school year. I have several parents that use the excuse of "not knowing how" when it comes to technology. I am thinking about having a parent training session after school one evening in order to alleviate these problems. Any thoughts about this? Thanks for your great ideas!

  4. When you get a chance, check out my blog. I ran across a great reference booklet for Web 2.0 toolbox. You can access it through the link in my blog and download it for your own or make copies for your computers for your students.
